NEWS
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Yeah, yeah, it's nearly June already, but you know as well as we do that it takes us a while to get around to things. In this instance, however, it's because we've been very quiet, so there hasn't been anything to report. And it will remain quiet, it seems, as we have very little on the horizon. I could go into detail about why we've been in extended hibernation but it's really late and it would require a lot of brain-power on my part. Maybe next time. Suffice it to say, things, and people, change.
We are, however, playing Handfest in Leeds on 24th August, at least. So we do still exist! And our debut album Born To Ruin is 15 years old this year. We're planning on doing a couple anniversary shows (including London) but nothing has been confirmed yet. Hopefully we'll pull something together.
And, double hopefully, there will be a permanent ceasefire (with repercussions) in Gaza by the time of the next band bulletin. Quite how the word genocide can be put in inverted commas (by far too many media commentators) when describing 36,000 murdered and 81,000 maimed Palestinians is beyond me.

IT'S A WRAP!
That's 2023 done and dusted! Thanks to everyone for coming to shows, buying stuff and supporting us in whatever ways you can. It means everything. Alas, we won't be doing a Plymouth xmas date this year but we'll make up for it with a Spring Special, along with many other planned shows for 2024. 'Til then, keep warm, take it easy, look after each other, and free Palestine. Salut!

GO CANADA!
We're back from Canada! It was a roaring success and an unforgettable experience for all of us. We made some lovely new friends and fans, shared the stage with some kick-ass bands (hey Fire Cult, Pro Wrestling The Band, Alien To The Ignorant, Huron Lines, Heart Attack Kids, Dead Broke, Pink Cloud Summer, Social Suicide, Crooked Jacks!) saw some spectacular sights and played some awesome shows. Our tour buddy/driver/guide/saviour Eamon McGrath was an absolute trooper. It was a pleasure to be his backing band as well as get to see him play his heart-wrenching songs every night. Until next time, eh?!
There was sadness though. Our dearest friend, Rachael Hipkin, had to fly back home to the UK after her beloved mum, Rebecca, suddenly passed away. Our thoughts go out to Rachael and her family ❤️
So what's next? Well, WARSHY (our Darren and Tia's folk/roots offshoot) are playing a few dates over summer:
05/07 2000 Trees Festival, Gloucestershire
29/07 Pit & Pendulum, Plymouth (with Pog + more)
31/08 Plymouth Punx Picnic, Pit & Pendulum
Watch this space for other show announcements. Cheers!

FLOATING BONES!
Our brand new single 'Floating Bones' is out today on Xtra Mile Recordings! A thick slice of harmonious hardcore goodness that lands a punch squarely on the jaw of neo-liberalism and the Tories' sickening 'hostile environment' policies. The song was initially recorded during the sessions for 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts' but has been re-worked and revitalised for a new era of crisis. Enjoy! It's available to stream/download now from all the usual outlets including our Bandcamp site.
Click HERE to see all purchase options.
Press release blurb:
'With the recent ten year anniversary of Margaret Thatcher's death, the lyrics detail a renewed dedication to resisting the cruel neo-liberal policies that started on her watch; as well as decrying the disgraceful Illegal Migration Bill which the Tories have devised to further their pursuit of the 'hostile environment'. The bill would allow the government to criminalise, detain and deport asylum seekers which, according to the UN, is a “clear breach of the refugee convention”.'

LOVE MUSIC!
Despite a very shaky few moments when we were thinking of cancelling due to no sound engineer, our Plymouth Foodbank benefit show at The Junction, Plymouth on the 23rd Dec was a roaring success! We raised a solid £900 along with a decent haul of food, and all the other bands – Pizzatramp, Soot Sprite, Hellwigs, Fresh Specimen and Tripper – were ace. Much thanks to everyone involved and who came along.
Our first show of 2023 is 'Handfest' at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds on 28th January with our buddies Random Hand + Lightyear + Wonk Unit + Pizzatramp + The Human Project + In Evil Hour + many more. Alas it's sold out, so no ticket link, but should be a banger!
Look after each other, #fuckthetories and see you all next year.

HATE TORIES!
So we decided to make our last show of the year a benefit for Plymouth Foodbank (including a food/goods collection on the night) in light of the desperate cost-of-living crisis that many people are struggling with. It's at The Junction, Plymouth on 23rd December, with lots of our good pals: Pizzatramp + Soot Sprite + Hellwigs + Fresh Specimen + Tripper. We're billing it as a LOVE MUSIC HATE TORIES event: because all poverty and inequality is a political decision, and because the Tories have 'kill the poor' written into their DNA. Also we'll be doing a couple Clash covers as it's 20 years since we lost the great Joe Strummer. £7 tickets HERE and £10 on the door, but we won't turn anyone away through lack of funds. (Pay more if you can afford it!) Cheers!

OH CANADA!
Our run of shows with the inimitable Eamon McGrath was a blast. We couldn't think of a nicer fella to share the stage/van with. So much so that we're working out a way of touring his homeland of Canada together. Watch this space!
And we're making good on our promise to play more northern shows. First off, we're playing our good buddies Random Hand's Handfest on 28th January at the Brudenell in Leeds with loads of great bands. Then we're heading to the Yellow Arch in Sheffield on 17th March to play with Shanghai Treason and Headsticks, with a string of dates around it. And if we can get in the studio to record a bunch of songs soon, we may even have a new EP to share by then. Hope springs eternal!
In the meantime, we're rounding off our year with a hometown show at The Junction, Plymouth on 23rd December. It'll be 20 years since Joe Strummer died so we (and hopefully all the other bands) will be playing a couple of choice covers in memory of the great man. To Woody! x

THE QUEEN IS DEAD!
LONG LIVE ROCKING!
Hello! Very sorry for the lack of spring/summer updates. There hasn't really been much to report other than a wonderful weekend at 2000 Trees festival in July (our 10th year playing the best fest in the West). Unfortunately, we had to cancel a couple other festival appearances, at Kendal Calling and Outcider. Very sorry if you were hoping to see us. We had personnel issues. Them's the breaks.
But now, we're revving up for a few shows in October! First off, we're playing the Cornish Bank in Falmouth on Sat 8th October with our good friends, The Eyelids, Broken Arrow and Chas Palmer-Williams. Can't wait! And then we head out for a little southern jaunt with brilliant Canadian indie/roots maestro, Eamon McGrath. The dates are:
13th The Hobbit, Southampton (w/Mouser)
14th Nowhere Inn, Plymouth (w/Heavy Heavy Hands)
15th Cowley Club, Brighton (w/Pog)
16th Till The Fest, London (w/Random Hand + many more)

PADDY WHACK!
Our first ever performance at Plymouth Pavilions was a blast! We played with Mad Dog Mcrea, 3 Daft Monkeys and Flanagan's School Of Irish Dance on St Patrick's Day, and we had no less than eight of the Crazy Arm extended family onstage: including Becky Saxton on harmony vox, Simon Dobson on trumpet, Ben Russell on drums, and Sam Spake on fiddle. And it was our first airing of 'Bella Ciao' – a song that sprung from exploited peasant workers in the rice fields of Italy but has since been transformed into an international song of resistance. Our version leans heavily on Chumbawamba's but with crust punk guitars as well as evocative trumpet. We'll get around to recording it soon, hopefully!
Next stop, the excellent Manchester Punk Festival (15th-17th April) where we'll be back to a punk rock four-piece with Tia on guitar/vox for the second time. Cheers!
Listening post... Plosivs. JOHN. Arcade Fire. Drug Church. Hot Water Music. Petrol Girls. Midlake. The Sadies. Heavy Heavy Hands. Sonic Youth. Chumbawamba.

TOP TIA!
Our debut show with Tia Kalmaru on guitar/vox was a roaring success! Phew! Thanks to the people of Warrington for being so lovely. We missed our mainman, Jon Dailey, but he'll be playing our next couple of hometown shows: at Plymouth Pavilions with Mad Dog Mcrea (17th March) and Get Rad Fest, Junction (30th April).
In between that, we'll be playing Manchester Punk Festival (17th April) with Tia back on guitar/vox and the awesome Sean Howe (from Random Hand) standing in on drums while Matt's away teching for Mongolian roots-rockers The Hu! And on bass, for the whole time, is our erstwhile accomplice extraordinaire, PJ Shepherd. Just so you know!

NEW YEAR'S EVENTS!
Greetings! January, as always, was a bit of a non-event but we've still been busy practising and restructuring. The biggest development being that our harmony singer, Tia Kalmaru, has been learning all the second guitar parts to play live whenever the increasingly busy Jon Dailey is unable. Her debut show with guitar is on 26th February in Warrington. Our nerves will be a-jinglin' and a-janglin' so be kind! Here's what's coming up:
9th Feb Cavern, Exeter w/The Skints
26th Feb FC2, Warrington w/Roughneck Riot
17th March Pavilions, Plymouth w/Mad Dog Mcrea
17th April Manchester Punk Festival
30th April Junction, Plymouth Get Rad Fest

BEST LAID PLANS!
The October mini-tour was just what the doctor ordered! Thanks to all the bands, fans, promoters and helpers who made it such a blast. We'll be out on the road again in April 2022, with a bunch of festival appearances to follow, starting with Manchester Punk Festival, 15-17th April. We may even get around to completing and releasing the four songs that didn't appear on 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts'... but don't hold us to it!
Listening post... Kurt Vile. The War On Drugs. Judee Sill. Sonic Youth. Joe Tilston. A.A. Williams. Plosivs. Myrkur. Eamon McGrath. Idles. Marissa Nadler. Simon & Garfunkel.

We're back on the road! At long last! To kick things off, we're playing a (very belated) hometown album launch show on Saturday 25th September at the Junction, Plymouth. Tickets available here. Can't wait!
Then we head out in October for these six shows:
5th Exchange Basement, Bristol w/Erica Freas + Okay, Bye
6th Waterfront, Norwich supporting The Skints
7th MK11, Milton Keynes supporting The Skints
8th The Exchange, Keighley w/Sounds Of Swami + Homonym

THE NEW ALBUM IS OUT!
Releasing an album during a pandemic has probably been one of our dumbest ideas but, against all odds, here it is! We started recording 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts' in Dec 2016 and finished it in Aug 2020. Over those four years, we were only in Middle Farm Studios for a total of 21 days! Babies, poverty, lethargy, life and Covid got in the way. Anyway, here's to the future, whatever the hell that may be. Love to you all!

HAPPY NEW FEAR!
Meet the new year, same as the old year, as The Who nearly sang. We don't need to remind you that the devil's trident of Brexit, Covid and Austerity will doom us all to another year of physical and mental anguish, so we won't. Instead, we'll share the news that we'll be releasing 'Fear Up', the third song from our imminent new album, in two weeks (15th Jan)! It's one of our absolute favourites and features the genius that is Simon Dobson on trumpet, and the amazing Tia Kalmaru on harmony vocals. We like to think it sounds like Ennio Morricone conducting the Constantines. Dream big. The album is out two weeks later, on 29th Jan. Giddy? Yup!

NEW YEAR'S REVELATION!
Hold the front page! Our brand new album, 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts', will be released, at last, on 29th Jan 2021 through Xtra Mile Recordings! To say we're relieved and excited is a major understatement. It's been four years in the making (but only three weeks of actual studio time), seven years since 'The Southern Wild', and eight months since the online sneak preview, but it's really happening! All those broken promises of ours can now be conveniently forgotten about. It'll be available on vinyl (black or white), CD, digital and all streaming sites. Pre-order the album HERE.

*We're down to play an acoustic set at our beloved 2000 Trees festival, 8-10th July 2021. Details to come.
*It's a long way off but we're confirmed to play Till The Fest in London, 8-10th October 2021 with Bob Vylan, Waco, Charmpit and many more. If everything is back to normal by then, we'll build a UK tour around it. Hope springs eternal!

We're recording a song for a Fugazi covers benefit record! We're back in Middle Farm Studios soon to complete our new album! We're in talks with Xtra Mile Recordings about releasing it! Other than that, we're just waiting out this situation until near-normal service is resumed.
In separate news, Jon and I have started a little lockdown side-band. No name yet but we have a handful of songs under construction which we'll put up on Bandcamp when they're ready. Watch this space!

STREAM A-GO-GO!
Covid shmovid! Here it is! Celebrating 15 years of Crazy Arm, a sneak preview of our brand new, unreleased, fourth album, 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts'. All critical opinions welcome! Spare no feelings! It'll be streaming here and on our Bandcamp for 24 hours only from now (midday GMT). No sales or downloads! That's because the album isn't quite finished yet. We intend to record some extra bits, and possibly add an extra song. But we think it still sounds pretty damn epic (courtesy of Peter Miles at Middle Farm Studios, Devon). So, enjoy some new music on this fine bank holiday. And a huge thank you to everyone for 15 years of support. It means nothing without you. Victory is ours!

AND WE'RE OFF!
Holy shitsnacks!
Welcome to the first ever official Crazy Arm website! It's only taken us 15 years! Why we waited so long is anyone's guess but I should think it has a lot to do with an over-reliance on social media and an ever-growing glut of streaming sites. And, of course, we like to take our time. Needless to say, this site is a DIY work-in-progress so bear with me while I learn the digi-ropes. Any issues or suggestions, please don't hesitate to grumble.
HOBOCORE FOR LYF!
And what better time to kick this website off than on our 15 year anniversary? Yup, our debut show was on 25th May 2005 at the White Rabbit, Plymouth, as a fresh-faced trio (Jon Dailey, Simon Marsh and me), supporting local legends, NoComply. So, 15. We're now a stroppy, directionless teenager with an identity crisis and bad skin. Sounds about right.
To commemorate the occasion, we're going to stream our brand new, unreleased, fourth album, 'Dark Hands, Thunderbolts', FOR ONE DAY ONLY! See it as a sneak preview, a little fleeting gift from us to you in these trying times. And also to prove that we haven't been fibbing for the past three years. Rest assured, it will definitely get a proper release when we're through the worst of this unprecedented pandemic, and when we can realistically tour it. Watch this space!
SOUTHERN COMFORT!
We still have 17 vinyl copies of our acoustic album, 'The Southern Wild', left. It comes in a DIY A3 fold-over sleeve instead of the proper cover – we had a bunch of leftover vinyl without the official sleeves! It's available to buy for a tenner on our BigCartel site (alongside our Clash tribute/rip-off t-shirts and more). Album downloads, lyrics and liner notes available by email on request.
